Checking for updates on a Windows computer
If you're using a Windows computer, checking for an update to Word is easy. Here's what you'll need to do:
- Make sure you have an active Office account or Office 365 subscription
If your Microsoft Office account or Office 365 subscription has expired, you won't be notified for any of the newer updates to Word. You can get a free Student account through Microsoft Office's Education Program. - Open Microsoft Word
- Go to File
- Click Account
- Click Update Options under Office Updates on the right side of the screen
- Click Update Now
Checking for updates on a Mac
On a Mac, checking for updates is simple.
- Open Microsoft Word
- Click Help in the toolbar at the top of the screen
- Click Check for Updates
