When words fail to tell the entire story, you can insert a figure into your PERRLA paper in a matter of seconds.
Like Citations, Figures are added to your paper wherever you place your cursor. Be sure your cursor is in you paper where you want the figure to be inserted.
- Go to the PERRLA ribbon tab
- Click Insert Figure
- Select a figure image
You can either choose a file from your computer (.jpg, or .png) or choose an image from a website by inserting its URL. - Add a figure caption or title
Captions and titles should concisely describe its content. - (APA 7) Add Notes
In APA 7th Edition papers, you can optionally add Notes to your Figure. - Click the Insert Figure
Great! Your figure will be inserted at the point you originally placed your cursor.
Updating the Figure Number
At the moment, Word doesn’t allow PERRLA to automatically update the Figure Number for you. But updating it is easy.
- Right-click where it says (Right-click and select “Update Field”)
The Figure number is always directly below the figure itself. - Select Update Field
That’s it! Whenever you add a new table, PERRLA will automatically set the figure number for you – no matter where it is in your paper.
If you add a new figure before ones that you previously added to the paper, after you have set the figure number in the new figure using the instructions above, you'll also need to go back to the previously added figures and update those figure numbers. You'll do this by right clicking directly on the figure number and then choosing Update Field. So, for a figure labeled Figure 1, you'd right click directly on the "1" to choose Update Field.
Making adjustments to a Figure
After a figure has been inserted into your paper, you can adjust the image or edit the caption directly in your paper.
