Installing the PERRLA Add-in

The PERRLA Add-in for Word is installed directly inside of Word through the Microsoft Word Add-in Store.

Before installing the PERRLA Add-In, please note that it requires the most up-to-date version of Microsoft Word 2016* or newer and an active internet connection.

Here's how to get started with the PERRLA Add-in:

1. Open Microsoft Word
2. In the Home ribbon tab, select Add-ins on the far-right
   TIP: In older versions of Word, you will select Get Add-ins from the Insert ribbon tab.
3. Select + More Add-ins
4. Search for PERRLA in the window
5. Click Add

That's it!

The first time you add PERRLA, it may take a few seconds for the Add-in to load.  Once it's loaded, you'll see a tooltip for the PERRLA ribbon tab.

The PERRLA ribbon tab should show up in any Word document moving forward. If it doesn't, you can add it with the Add-ins button in the Home ribbon tab. However, instead of going to Get Add-ins, click My Add-ins.  Then, select PERRLA.

*Some installations of Word 2016 Professional Plus will not properly load some Word add-ins, including PERRLA. If you're using a Professional Plus version of Word, we'd recommend upgrading to Word 2019. Word 2019 is free through the Microsoft Education Program, offering the latest version of Microsoft Word for free to anyone with an e-mail address ending in .edu). You can then install the PERRLA Add-In through the Microsoft Word Add-In Store.

Having trouble inserting the Add-in into Word?

Some schools block the use of Add-ins for their users in Microsoft Word.

If this is the case at your school, you'll see an error message that reads: "Sorry, Office 365 has been configured to prevent individual acquisition of Office Store Add-ins."

There's an easy solution: log out of Microsoft Word before inserting the Add-in.

Using PERRLA in iOS

You can use the PERRLA Add-in with Microsoft Word on your iPad!

Here's how:

1. Open Word on your iPad
2. Go to the Home tab
3. Click Add-ins on the far right
4. Select See All at the bottom of the menu
5. Scroll down & press Add beside PERRLA

This will open the PERRLA side panel inside of Word. 

Unlike the desktop version of Word, PERRLA on iOS doesn't include its own ribbon tab at the top.  However, you'll have access to everything through the side-panel and menu button.
