Using Auto-fill Reference Search in APA, MLA, & Turabian (Word)

If you’re citing Books, Journals, or Websites, PERRLA will let you search for references, and then automatically import their bibliographic data without you having to type a thing.

It works the same way in PERRLA Online and PERRLA for Word.

How it works

1. After opening a PERRLA Paper, click the References & Citations icon above the Editor
2. Click Create a Reference
3. Type in your search terms in the Look up a reference search bar
   You can search by DOI, ISBN, URL, or author & title.
4. Press Enter on your keyboard
5. Select the reference you want to use

That's it!  PERRLA will automatically fill in that reference's data for you in the Reference form so you don't have to do it by hand.

If you searched by DOI, ISBN, or URL, PERRLA will take you straight to the form with the data already entered.

Can't find your reference?

First, try changing your search terms.  Adding additional information or leaving some information out may help us better find your reference.  If you still can't find your reference, you can still create it manually.

To create a reference manually, you can select the reference type directly (in the Common or All Types tabs of the Reference Wizard) instead of searching for it.
