In APA 7th Edition papers, you can create citations in the same way as usual. Here's how:
- Add a reference to your paper
You can create a new reference or add an existing one from your library. - Place your cursor where you want the citation
- Click "+ Add citation" beneath the reference in the PERRLA References & Citations panel
- Enter the citations information
- Click Create Citation
That's all there is to it!
Hiding parts of the citation
In APA 7th Edition papers, you now have the ability to hide parts of a citation when it is added to your paper.
Beneath the Live Preview (another new feature), you can choose the parts of your citation to include in your paper. By default, citations will include every part requested by the APA 7th Edition Manual.
However, if you have already referenced the work's contributor (e.g., author) or the year the work was published in the sentence you're citing, you can leave that information out of the citation. To remove it from the citation, just uncheck the box beside the appropriate box.
The Live Preview will update automatically to show you how your citation will look in your paper.
Note: Citations for group authors that have an abbreviation (e.g., the American Psychological Association & APA), the preview will only show the full group author's name. However, when the citation is added, if the reference has been used before, PERRLA will create the proper second-use version of the citation with the group author's abbreviation.
