Working with Citations in the PERRLA Add-in

Showing & Hiding your Citations

By default, PERRLA will hide all of your Citations inside their Reference in the References & Citation panel.  This helps keep the panel view cleaner & easier to navigate.

However, you can always find a full list of your citations by clicking on the Reference in the panel.  

Clicking on the Reference will either show or hide its Citations.  If it doesn't have any Citations, then nothing will happen.

Finding a Citation in your paper

Once you have more than a few Citations, it can be difficult to find where they are at in your paper.

PERRLA's Add-in can find any Citation for you.  Here's how:

1. In the References & Citations panel, hover over the Citation you want to find
2. Click the "..." icon for that Citation
3. Click Show in Paper

That's it!  PERRLA will scroll to that Citation in your paper and highlight it for you.

Editing a Citation

Sometimes you may need to edit one of your Citations.  Because Citations are locked inside Content Controls, you'll need to edit them with PERRLA.

Here's how:

1. In the References & Citations panel, hover over the Citation
2. Click the "..." icon for the Citation
3. Click Edit Citation
4. Update the Citation's information
5. Click Update Citation

That's it!  PERRLA will automatically update your citation for you.

Deleting a Citation

In addition to finding or editing a Citation, you can also use PERRLA to delete Citations out of your paper.  

If you delete a Citation with PERRLA, we'll automatically replace the citation with the text "(CITATION DELETED)".  We do that so you always know where the citation was & don't accidentally plagiarize some content.

OK, here's how you use PERRLA to delete a Citation:

1. In the References & Citations panel, hover over the Citation
2. Click the "..." icon for the Citation
3. Click Delete Citation

That's all there is to it!  PERRLA will delete the Citation & replace it with the (CITATION DELETED) text.
