There may come a time when you have multiple PERRLA papers that you need to combine into a single paper. There's no way to accomplish this with a simple quick button click, but it should still prove to be an easy task.
The techniques that will be covered here will result in the body of each individual paper being separate throughout the combined paper, with a single reference page containing references from all the individual papers at the end of the combined paper.
PERRLA for Word
The first step that needs to be taken is to create "clean copies" of all the individual papers to remove all the content controls. This link should help you with that: https://perrla.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/1260804045269-Using-the-Paper-Review-panel-Word-Add-in-
Once you have done that, you can proceed to the instructions below. Make sure you are using the "clean copies" of the papers, not the originals, when following these instructions.
- Create a new PERRLA paper.
- Highlight the text in the clean copy of the first paper, not including the references.
- Copy the highlighted text.
- Paste that text into the new PERRLA paper.
- Place your cursor on the line below the text you just pasted.
- Go to Word's Insert tab.
- Click the Pages button.
- Choose Page Break from the dropdown menu.
This will give you a new blank page. - Highlight the text in the clean copy of the second paper, not including the references.
- Copy the highlighted text.
- Paste that text into the blank page that was created in Step 8.
- Repeat Steps 5 through 8.
- Repeat Steps 9 through 12 for each individual paper.
- Once you have pasted all of the individual papers into the new paper, go to the PERRLA tab in Word.
- Click the References & Citations button in the PERRLA ribbon.
- Click Add References From Library in the side panel.
- Click +Add to Paper underneath each reference that needs to be included in the merged paper.
- Click Finished.
This will add all of the references to a single reference page at the end of the merged paper.
That's all you need to do. You'll now have a paper that includes all of your previous papers, along with a combined reference page at the end.
PERRLA Online
With PERRLA Online, the first thing you'll need to do is export your PERRLA Online papers to your computer as "Simplified Word Files." This link explains a bit about exporting/downloading your PERRLA Online papers to your computer: https://perrla.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/360047675474-Download-or-print-your-APA-7-papers-to-turn-in-Online-. Make sure you're choosing "Simplified Word File" when exporting the papers.
Once you have the papers downloaded to your computer as simplified Word files, you'll need to also have the PERRLA for Word add-in installed in Word. Instructions to do that are found at this link: https://perrla.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/360026245454-Installing-the-PERRLA-Add-in

Individual Reference Pages
As you noticed, the instructions above will give you all of your papers merged into one, except the reference page will include the references from all of the papers.
If you're needing the reference pages to be included with their individual papers within the merged paper, don't worry. This can be done quite easily.
Follow the instructions above, except make sure you do copy the references when copying the text of the paper. You can then leave out steps 14 through 18.
This will give you a paper with each individual paper, along with its reference page, combined into one paper.
