When you create a paper in PERRLA Online, you may notice that the body of the paper does not include complete page numbering, while page numbering in other sections of the paper are replaced by #. Don't worry. This is by design.
When you are working on your paper in the PERRLA Online Editor, it is divided into separate sections. The title page is its own section, the abstract is its own section, the body is its own section, and so on.
So, when you are typing the body of the paper into the Editor, at that point it is just one long section of text and is not yet divided into separate pages. Once you download the paper to your computer as a Word document or PDF file, all of the sections are compiled into a properly formatted paper, complete with the page numbers and proper page breaks.
There may be instances when you need to know how many pages you have prior to downloading the document to your computer. There are a couple of ways you can find this information out.
Show Page Count
First, you can check the Page Count.
- Click the View menu in the Editor
- Click Show Page Count
This will show you a breakdown of how many pages are in each section of your document, along with the total number of pages for the entire document.
Print Preview
You can also "preview" how your downloaded paper will appear prior to downloading it.
- Click the File menu in the Editor
- Click Print
This will bring up your browser's Print Preview screen, so you can view exactly how your paper will look once it is downloaded. (Side note: There is also a Print Document button in the Editor's toolbar that will accomplish this same task.)
