PERRLA gives you the option to create either APA 7 research paper type: Professional research paper or Student research paper. A Professional research paper includes an Abstract page by default. A Student research paper does not include an Abstract page by default, but you can click PERRLA's Abstract button to add one.
There may be times when you are working on a Professional research paper with the PERRLA for Word add-in, but you don't need to include an Abstract page in your paper. Or, you may be working on a Student research paper with PERRLA for Word, and you accidentally add an unneeded Abstract page to your paper.
Unlike PERRLA Online, there is not a button in the PERRLA for Word add-in to easily remove an unneeded Abstract page. However, you can follow the steps below to manually remove an Abstract page from your paper when it is not needed. This will work for both Professional and Student papers.
Deleting the Abstract Page
- With your PERRLA for Word paper open, go to Word's Home tab.
- Click the Show Hidden Characters button.
This is the button showing a paragraph symbol (¶). Clicking this button will make all section breaks, page breaks, tabs, hard returns, etc. visible throughout your document.
- Highlight the entire Abstract page from top to bottom.
Make sure to include the word "Abstract" at the top of the page.
- On your keyboard, hold the SHIFT key and hit the RIGHT ARROW key.
This will highlight the Section Break at the bottom of the Abstract page.
- Hit the DELETE key on your keyboard.
And that's all you have to do! The Abstract page will now be removed from the paper.
