PERRLA now gives you the ability to add PERRLA's functionality to existing papers in Microsoft Word – not just creating new papers from scratch.
What you need to know first
When you create your paper with PERRLA from the get-go, we format the entire paper: fonts, margins, title page, sections, spacing, everything! This means you won't lose any points for small mistakes that a default document might not have.
Adding PERRLA to your existing paper will allow you to add references & citations to your paper, but we won't be checking the formatting of every other part of your paper. So, if something isn't right in your document, we aren't correcting it.
Also, there are some PERRLA features that won't work right now unless you create the paper with PERRLA. This includes: MLA 9 support, Turabian 9 support, title page, abstract, tables of content, appendices, tables, & figures.
We hope to add some of these features in the future, but some we are going to have to wait for Microsoft Word to do some more work on their end.
How to add PERRLA to your paper
If you've read the caveats above & still want to add PERRLA's references, citations, and text styles to your existing paper, follow the instructions below.
- Open your paper in Microsoft Word.
You can use Word Desktop or Word for Web, but Word for Web only supports the APA 7 format currently. - Open the References & Citations panel.
You can also find this option in the "Other" panel under Create New Paper. - Toward the bottom of the panel, click the Add PERRLA to this Paper button.
- Choose a format & give your new paper a name.
Currently, we only support APA 7. MLA 9 & Turabian 9 will be coming in the future. The Title is what we'll name the paper in PERRLA (we DON'T add a title to the document).
That's it! We'll add the necessary parts behind the scenes and you can start adding references, citations, and text headings to your paper.
Remember, not all features are included with this type of paper (yet). Papers that have PERRLA added to them don't support: MLA 9 support, Turabian 9 support, title page, abstract, tables of content, appendices, tables, & figures.
