We're really happy with the new features and progress that we've made with PERRLA in the past year and a half.
We've built a brand new PERRLA for Word Add-in that is faster and easier to use than any of previous PERRLA for Word software. We've also added the APA 7th Edition to both PERRLA for Word and PERRLA Online! This was a monumental task because it required us to rewrite our Reference Engine from the ground up.
In addition to those big updates, we've also added some incredible features – our favorite being the ability to look up references instead of typing them out manually. The new Auto-fill Search functionality in APA 7th Edition papers means you can create perfect references in seconds.
So, with all this amazing work, what's next on our plate?
Over the Summer, we're going to be making sure that all of these new pieces and features are working at their very best so that we're ready for a full & busy Fall semester. Here's a few of the things we'll be pulling together:
Updated References Module for PERRLA Online
At the moment, you can't view your APA 7th Edition References outside of their papers. We're going to be updating the References module so that you can create, edit, and manage all of your PERRLA references without having to work on a paper.
A lot of students really love our Outline and Research Notes features inside Papers. This is a feature that is going to need a bit more attention to get it really right. This summer we'll be re-building it so that it works better than ever before.
New Tutorials & Guides
We're also going to be working on improving the tutorials and guides that we have available in PERRLA. This will help new users learn the software faster and help current students learn about some of the less used features that PERRLA includes.
Questions about previous versions of PERRLA
Q: Will the new features (like Auto-fill Reference Searching) be coming to APA 6th Edition papers or MLA 8th Edition papers?
A: No or not right now. We won't be updating APA 6th Edition with the new features. By the time we implemented these in APA 6, almost all students will be using the 7th Edition. And, it's time we could have used to make better features for the papers students are actually writing. We will be migrating MLA 8 to the new Reference Engine in the future. When we do that, we will also add the other new features.
Q: Will APA 7th Edition or the new features be added to the older PERRLA for Word software?
A: Unfortunately not. The technology the legacy versions of PERRLA for Word used is being limited by a lack of support from Microsoft and Apple. It's because of this that we first built the new PERRLA for Word Add-in. This also means that we won't be able to move these new features into the older software.
However, every active PERRLA subscriber or PERRLA customer who bought PERRLA prior to January 1, 2018 has access to the latest and greatest versions of PERRLA. Click here to learn how to install the PERRLA for Word Add-in.
