The first time you use an existing reference in your APA 7th Edition paper, it will need to be updated to the proper format before being added to your paper – but don't worry. PERRLA makes the process virtually hassle-free.
Updating your existing reference
When working in an APA 7th Edition Paper, you can add any of your existing APA 6th Edition references using the Add Reference from Library button in the References & Citations panel.
If you haven't used an existing reference in an APA 7th Edition paper, yet the text under the reference will say + Update & Add to Paper.
Once you click on Update & Add, you'll be asked to review your reference in the PERRLA panel and will be allowed to add or edit any necessary information.
After the review and update process, your reference will be updated to APA 7 format and added to your paper. PERRLA will keep the APA 6th Edition version of the reference in your library as well, but it will only be available if you're creating an APA 6 paper.
Will my new APA 7th Edition references also be available in PERRLA Online?
Not yet - but we're working on it.
Once APA 7th Edition functionality has been added to PERRLA Online (which we expect to complete in the Spring semester), then your 7th Edition references will be available there as well.
