APA 7th Edition Functionality in PERRLA
In October 2019, the American Psychological Association released a new version of their publication manual – the 7th Edition.
We've been working hard on adding APA 7th Edition rules to our software. (Don’t worry… you’ll still be able to create 6th Edition papers).
Here's some of the many new features you'll find in both PERRLA Online & PERRLA for Word:
- A brand new reference engine
Reference types have been simplified to their most basic forms (Book, Journal, Website, etc.). We've also streamlined the Reference Engine form so that it's simple and straight forward. - Auto-fill Reference Creation
You can now search for Books, Journals, and Websites using a DOI, ISBN, URL, or Author & Title information. We'll pull back the references data and enter it into the form for you. Say goodbye to manually entering references! - Customized Citations
When adding citations to your paper, you can now choose what parts of the citation you want to include. For instance, if you've already mentioned the author, you can leave the Contributor Name out of the citation. - Consolidated Interface
PERRLA Online and PERRLA for Word now use the same Ribbon Bar & Panels for adding References, Citations, Tables, Figures, Headings, Abstracts, & more. The new interface makes finding features and using PERRLA simpler than ever before.
Questions about older versions of PERRLA & MLA
PERRLA for Word Legacy applications
The 7th Edition functionality is NOT being added to our older “legacy” versions of our software. If you’re still using our old software, it’s time for you to make the easy switch to our PERRLA for Word Add-in for your future papers. Here’s how.
You can know you're using a legacy version of PERRLA if you have a start up application that launches before Word.
What about APA 6 & MLA 8?
All of our latest features are currently only in APA 7th Edition papers. We won't be adding these features to APA 6th Edition papers because of the enormous amount of work required. However, we will be updating MLA papers in the future.
