Appendices are used to add supplementary material to your paper. Each appendix is added at the very end of the paper on a separate page. Appendices are great places to include material that is either too long or too distracting to be placed in the body of the paper.
Appendices in APA 7 Papers
We have just added the ability to add Appendices to APA 7th Edition Research Papers!
The new Appendices panel includes two buttons: "Add an Appendix" and "Refresh Appendix Names".
Creating an appendix
To add an appendix to the end of your paper, just click "Add an Appendix". PERRLA will automatically create and add a new appendix to the very end of your paper. We'll also update the names of any appendices you created using PERRLA to make sure they are all correct.
Deleting an appendix
We don't ever delete content in your papers that you've written – and appendices are just that. If you need to delete an appendix from your paper, you will need to highlight and delete it manually in the Word document.
Refresh Appendix names
If you ever move or re-order your appendices, clicking "Refresh Appendix Names" will go through your paper and update all of the appendix names to make sure that they're labelled correctly from start to finish (e.g., Appendix A, Appendix B, etc.).

Using Headings in MLA formatted Appendices
Styling the headings in an MLA formatted appendix follows the same guidelines as headings in the main text.
There are five headings recommended for MLA.
- Heading Level 1: bold, flush left aligned
- Heading Level 2: italics, flush left aligned
- Heading Level 3: bold, center aligned
- Heading Level 4: italics, center aligned
- Heading Level 5: underlined, flush left aligned
The MLA also recommends that headings are numbered with Arabic numerals (1, 2, 3 ...). Sub-sections contain the larger heading number, a decimal, and their own number (1.1, 2.1.15, 3.4 ...).
Adding multiple Appendices for MLA papers
For an MLA formatted paper with more than one appendix, the appendices should be labeled numerically or alphabetically. The first appendix will be "Appendix 1" or "Appendix A," the second "Appendix 2" or "Appendix B," and so forth.
