What's going on?
In the latest version of Microsoft Word (version 16.27), there have been some unannounced changes to the way applications talk to the Word document. Unfortunately, this means that PERRLA for Word on Mac is running into issues when you try to create or edit an existing paper.
If you are experiencing this problem, when you try to create or edit a paper with PERRLA, it will either quit the PERRLA application or give you a generic Applescript error message.
What should I do now?
We have passed this issue to our development team, we hope to be able to resolve this issue soon.
We have released a new version of PERRLA for Word (Mac) that fixes this.
If you have an active subscription, you will be prompted to upgrade to the newest version the next time you launch PERRLA for Word (Mac).
If you are using an older version of PERRLA for Word & cannot upgrade, you can find instructions for how to revert to Microsoft Word 16.26 below. This is only necessary for users who are not able to update their PERRLA for Word (Mac) software.
Revert to Microsoft Word 16.26
There are two major steps you will have to complete.
First, set Microsoft's AutoUpdate application to only "Manually Check" for updates.
- Open Microsoft Word
- Click Help in the menubar
- Click Check for Updates
This will open the Microsoft AutoUpdate window.
- Select Manually Check from the options at the top.
- Close the application.
Second, install Word 16.26.
- Download Microsoft Word 16.26 at this link.
- Delete Microsoft Word from your Application folder.
You can do this by going to Applications in the Finder then dragging the icon for Microsoft Word to the Trash Can in the dock. You can also select the Word application and press Command + Delete on your keyboard at the same time.
- Open the downloaded installer package from Step 1.
This will re-install Word 16.26 for you. If Word 16.26 is unresponsive when first launched, quit it and open it again.
After installing 16.26, if you are asked to update your version of Microsoft Word, you should decline the update at this time.
