Adding a Table of Contents
Adding a Table of Contents to your Paper only takes a single click with Paper View. Here's how it works:
- Scroll to where the Table of Contents goes
In APA, this is right before the Body section. In MLA, it's directly under the paper's title information.
- Click Add a Table of Contents
We automatically add a Table of Contents for you.
Just like in the normal Editor, the Table of Contents is built off of the Headings you've added to your paper. If you need a reminder on how to add headings, check out this article.
Removing a Table of Contents
If you ever need to remove your Table of Contents, just click Remove Table of Contents on the Table of Contents section.
The Remove Table of Contents button doesn't show up in the final paper. It's only visible in the Paper View Editor.
You can also add or remove a Table of Contents using the Paper Sections option in the menubar.
About Page Numbers
In the Paper View, we replace the page numbers with placeholders until we export the paper. This is so we can be sure to have the right page number in your final document.
One last thing
Be sure the Table of Contents box is checked in the Export/Download tab when you're exporting your paper.
