For a number of technical reasons, PERRLA for Word on Mac has to run side-by-side with Microsoft Word (not inside of it like the Windows version). That means that Word and PERRLA have to talk to one another whenever they do something.
If you are working on a paper and receive a Word Communication Error, then Word has quit listening to the instructions that PERRLA is sending it. Literally.
Once Word quits listening, there isn't anything that PERRLA can do to fix it. Fortunately, the fix is usually pretty simple.
- Save your work (don't use Save As)
- Close your Microsoft Word document
- Click Back to Home in PERRLA
- Re-open your paper
That almost always fixes things. However, if you continue to receive error messages, please contact our Customer Support team. You can reach out to them directly via email (firstname.lastname@example.org) or by using the Contact Support link in the Help Center at www.perrla.com/
