PERRLA Online allows you to add Annotations to any Reference in your PERRLA Papers.
Before we start...
Before I give you the instructions, there are two things to know first.
First, Annotations are part of a Reference's details and not the actual paper itself. That means you don't ever see the Annotation directly within the paper itself in PERRLA Online. This is different from PERRLA for Word.
Second, you include a Reference's annotation during the Paper Export process in the Export/Print tab. So the process of adding Annotations in PERRLA Online may seem a little odd. We know this and have plans to improve this in a future update.
Add Annotations to your References
Now that you know a little about Annotations, here's how you can add them to your Paper's References. After you've started a paper and added some Reference, just follow these steps:
- Click the Edit button beside the first Reference
It's the small pencil icon you see when you hover over the Reference
- Go to the Reference tab at the top
- Enter or edit the Annotation
- Click Save
- Repeat steps 3-6 for each Reference that needs an Annotation
Once you've added or edited the Annotation for each Reference, you're done with the hard part. Hoorah!
Including Annotations at Export
At this point, you won't actually see any of the Annotations in the Editor tab directly. However, they are there as part of each Reference
The last step is for when you export your paper from PERRLA Online. Here's what you need to do when you're exporting your paper:
- Be sure to check the boxes for References and Annotations
These are found in the top section, Include. This ensures that the References and Annotations are included in the final exported version of your Paper.
- Check any of the boxes you need
You can include Annotations in any paper.
- Adjust any of the following settings
- Click Export My Paper
That's it! Your paper will start to be downloaded, printed, or emailed (depending on which you chose).
The exported paper will include a References page with each Reference's Annotation properly formatted under it.
