We have just added the ability to add an Appendix to your papers in PERRLA Online for APA 7 papers!
Adding an Appendix
There is a new button in the ribbon menu of APA 7 papers: Appendix. Click on the Appendix option to open the new Appendix panel.
Once the panel is open, there is a button where you can "Add an Appendix". Clicking that button will add an appendix to the very end of your paper.
Each time you click the button, it will create a new appendix and update the names for each appendix in your paper following the APA 7 rules.
Alternatively, you can also click the green bar button at the very end of your paper to add a new appendix without opening the panel itself.
Deleting an Appendix
Once you add an appendix, there will be a red button underneath the appendix that gives you the option to delete it.
If you have multiple appendices, there will be a different delete button for each appendix. Each one is labeled to match the appendix it will delete.
When deleting an appendix, it will also delete any content in the appendix, so we ask you to confirm that you want the appendix deleted permanently.
PERRLA 201 Webinar
Below is a video of our PERRLA 201 webinar. It covers a lot of bases in regards to making advanced changes in your PERRLA papers in Word. One of the things that is covered is adding an appendix. The video should automatically play where adding appendices is being discussed. However, this entire video is definitely worth taking the time to watch if you'd like a few tips on how to accomplish some advanced editing in your paper. Note: This video is dealing with Microsoft Word, but adding an appendix will work the same in PERRLA Online.

We do not have the ability to add Appendices to APA 6 or MLA papers at this time.
However, you can add an Appendix manually after you have exported your paper from PERRLA Online.
If your appendix requires APA or MLA specific items (like citations, figures, tables, etc.), you have two options for creating that content with PERRLA.
Option 1: Creating content in PERRLA Online before exporting (without PERRLA for Word)
This option allows you to write all of your content in PERRLA Online and then move it into an Appendix after it is exported.
- Create the format specific content in the Editor in PERRLA Online
- Export/download your paper as a .doc or .docx file
- Add an Appendix to the paper
- Go to the very end of your paper.
You can do this on a PC by pressing Ctrl + End at the same time on your keyboard. - Add a page break.
Press Ctrl + Enter on your keyboard at the same time to insert a new page break after the Reference section. - Add the Appendix page heading
On the first line of the Appendix page, it should say "Appendix" center-aligned. A new normal paragraph should start on the next line.
- Go to the very end of your paper.
- Move the Appendix content
You can do this by copying and pasting the content from the body of the paper into the new Appendix page.
And that's it!
Option 2: Export the paper and use PERRLA for Word to write the Appendix content
The second option lets you create your paper and then use PERRLA for Word to create the APA/MLA specific content in an Appendix page you create.
As part of your PERRLA subscription, you get access to PERRLA Online and PERRLA for Word. You can download the latest version of PERRLA for Word by logging into your PERRLA account and clicking Download PERRLA for Word.
In this method, you still have to create the Appendix manually.
Here's how you can do this after finishing the body of your paper:
- Go to the Export/Print tab
This is the final tab inside your paper in PERRLA Online. - Select your export options for a .doc or .docx file
- Select either Word for PC or Word for Mac in the Compatibility section
Select the option that corresponds to your version of PERRLA for Word. - Click Export Paper
- Open PERRLA for Word
- Import your exported Paper
Click here to see how to import a paper in PERRLA for Word (Windows) or click here for instructions on importing a paper in PERRLA for Word (Mac). - Once imported, open the imported paper
- Write your Appendix's content using the PERRLA for Word for any APA/MLA elements
