Citing your research is one of the most important parts of writing a good APA/MLA paper. PERRLA Online makes it fast and simple.
Adding Citations to your Paper
After you've added the Reference to your paper and typed something worth citing, you'll need to add the actual citation. Here's how:
- Make sure the References & Citations panel is open in the Editor tab
It is open by default when you enter the Editor tab. If you don't see it, click References & Citations in the Editor menubar.
- Place the cursor where you want the Citation to appear
- Click +Add Citation beneath the Reference you need to cite
- Enter the Citation's information
- Click Create
That's it! Your new perfectly-formatted citation will be added to your paper.
If you expand the Reference in the References & Citations panel (click the arrow beside the Reference), you'll see your new Citation listed for the Reference.
You can repeat this process as many times as you need to create new Citations.
Creating a Citation outside of a Paper
If you need to create a Citation for a Reference, but not inside a paper – just to copy and paste somewhere. You can do that in the References module.
- Go to the References module in the side menu
- Click on the Reference you want
- Go to the Citations tab
- Enter the Citation information
- Click Generate Citation
Just like geeky magic, we'll create the Citation and show it to you on the screen. Then you can copy and paste it wherever you like.
If the Citation has different first and subsequent use citation, we'll show you both.
Also, the Citation will match the style of the Reference. So if the Reference was created in the APA style, it will show an APA Citation.
