Combining Multiple Citations in PERRLA Online

For years, combining multiple citations from different references has been a feature we've all been dreaming of. The wait is finally over!

In a recent update to the PERRLA Online, we've added the ability to combine multiple citations together.

How to create merged citations

You can create merged citations, using multiple references, by simply placing your cursor inside another citation and then creating the citation you want to merge into it.

1. Create a citation using the References & Citations panel
2. After the first citation is made, select the citation in the text
   You should see the Content Control (blue/gray box) around the citation.
3. Use the References & Citations panel to create your second citation
4. Repeat as needed

That's it! PERRLA will automatically merge the two citations, sort them in the correct order, and list the citation under each Reference in the References & Citations panel.

Editing or Deleting Merged Citations

Once a merged citation has been created, the full, merged citation will be listed under each of the references that are included in it. For example, if the citation merges a work by Pack & Nixon, you'll find the merged citation beneath the Pack and Nixon references.

You can edit or delete the different parts of the merged citation by selecting the merged citation under the proper reference.  For instance, if I wanted to remove Pack from the Pack & Nixon merged citation, I would delete the merged citation under the Pack Reference in the panel. PERRLA will update the citation correctly so it leaves the Nixon part in place.

If you double-click your citation, you can change the citation you are editing using the dropdown at the top of the Citation Panel.
