In the Spring 2021 release of Microsoft Word & Windows 10, there is a bug that can randomly log you out of PERRLA when opening PERRLA panels from the PERRLA Ribbon Tab in Word.
What does the bug do?
The bug will randomly log users out of the PERRLA Add-in when they try to open a new panel using the icons in the PERRLA Ribbon Tab in Word. The bug will only log you out when opening a new panel or a new paper. It does not happen if you keep your current panel open.
How to fix the issue
Microsoft has released an updated version of Word and new updates for Windows that fix this issue. We advise any user who experiences this to be sure to update both Microsoft Word and their Windows operating system to the latest versions.
If you cannot update your version of Word or Windows, you can use the following work-around until you can update your software.
You can use the Menu icon in the top-left of the PERRLA panel to navigate anywhere in the PERRLA Add-in instead of using the Ribbon bar.
As long as you keep the panel open, you will stay logged into your PERRLA Account and not risk being logged out by Word.
The menu navigation includes links to each of the PERRLA ribbon tab icons, including Create a New Paper and Settings.
The Text & Heading Styles icon is not included in the navigation menu because it doesn't open a side-panel of its own. You can still use Text & Heading Styles in the PERRLA Ribbon without fear.
